Our Aim for the Future

In the UK, parents and carers of children and young people with SEND frequently experience significant isolation from their communities. This isolation is often compounded by the judgment they feel from others, making it difficult for them to find understanding and support.

Financial constraints add another layer of challenge, as there is a severe shortage of resources and safe community spaces available to these families. The absence of such crucial support systems not only adversely affects the mental health of these families but also puts additional pressure on already strained mental health services. 

While there are initiatives designed to support these families, they are often temporary, with limited funding and scope. These initiatives can become a vital lifeline, offering much-needed relief and connection. However, when the funding expires, families are often left without continued support, once again deprived of essential resources or safe spaces.

At 4SEND we are determined to change this narrative. We are actively working to bridge the gaps between agencies, organisations, and services that support the SEND community. Our vision includes the development of a SEND community hub—a safe, welcoming space where families can access a wide range of services, resources, and events. This hub will not only provide immediate support but also contribute to the long-term well-being of families, ensuring they remain connected and supported even after short-term initiatives conclude.

By creating a sustainable and reliable support network, 4SEND aims to empower families, helping them to feel more connected, supported, and integrated within their communities.

We are incredibly fortunate to have parent carers with lived experience as a core and integral part of our team, who offer invaluable insights and perspectives. Our team is diverse and dedicated, with a network of professional volunteers including teachers, speech and language therapists, healthcare professionals, and many others who bring a wealth of expertise to our work. What unites us all is a shared passion for supporting children, young people, and families within the SEND community.
